Votes Have Consequences: Pro-Life Democrats?

Last year, pro-life advocates watched as self-identified pro-life Democrats abandoned their principles, their constituents and the unborn by voting for Obamacare, the largest expansion of abortion since Roe. The group, largely led by then Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak, chose to accept an Executive Order—a fig leaf—from President Obama rather than stand their ground for Life.

A notable exception was pro-life Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski who, unlike his colleagues, withstood immense pressure and upheld his commitment to Life by voting against Obamacare.

Just as they cast aside their principles to vote for a healthcare overhaul which, according to the non-partisan Congressional Research Service and the National Right to Life Committee, will expand abortion, groups such as the Susan B. Anthony List and the Family Research Council sought to make sure they were held accountable at the ballot box by their constituents.

In the November elections, a majority of the supposedly pro-life House Democrats lost their seats. Truly, votes have consequences!
