States Are Leading the Way in Fight to Protect Life

Especially over the course of the last year, states have been working hard to protect the lives of the unborn through new legislation.

As recently referenced on the Suzy B Blog, in May Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed ultrasound legislation which has the potential to save 40,000 unborn children each year. Perry noted, “Every life lost to abortion is a tragedy we all must work together to prevent.”

Also as noted on the Suzy B Blog, the most recent session of the Kansas Legislature brought a string of pro-life victories. Gov. Sam Brownback gladly signed legislation which requires abortion clinic inspections, outlaws “webcam abortions,” all abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, and defunds Planned Parenthood.

Nearby, as LifeNews.com reports, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer had, already, in April, signed into law a bill banning “telemed” abortions, strengthening parental consent laws, and requiring abortion centers to meet health and safety standards. Additionally, the bill “guarantees that a woman will have an ultrasound before an abortion is performed and that she has the opportunity to view the image and hear the heartbeat of the preborn child inside her.” As the president of The Center for Arizona Policy, a pro-life group, Cathi Herod, noted, “Once again, Arizona stands tall in defense of life and women.”

New Hampshire also took the lead in protecting children and women when its Executive Council voted to end a longstanding contract worth $1.8 million with Planned Parenthood of New England. Also, in June, the state legislature voted to override Gov. Lynch’s veto of a parental notification bill. The legislation now requires abortion providers to notify parents that their teenage daughter is seeking an abortion at least 48 hours before providing abortion services.

Thankfully, pro-life legislation has been sweeping across these and other states. Take action to ensure that your elected officials have the courage to stand for life!
