"Pledge to America" Revealed

In 1994, when Newt Gingrich, former Republican House Speaker from Georgia, presented the “Contract with America,” he emphatically pronounced it, “the boldest, most decisive, clearest contract in the history of the United States.” Now, as the “Pledge to America” is released today, the inclusion of our pro-life values proposes to make it a bolder, more decisive, and clearer contract—thanks to you! Because of the participation and comments of over 10,000 Americans, both the Republican Party leaders and the national media took notice.

The SBA List’s “Life Speaking Out” campaign encouraged Americans to take a stand, and defend both mothers and their unborn children. It included a website for comments and encouragement to the Republican Party, including Rep. Mike Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, and Rep. John Boehner, House Minority Leader, to whom SBA List president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, delivered your messages last week.

We are no longer just aiming to repeal Obama’s pro-abortion agenda, but we are taking a step forward, and actively taking a stand for our values and priorities. With the elections fast approaching in November, Congress has the potential to be one of the most pro-life in history. Therefore, it is important that the “Pledge to America” reinforce how important the pro-life cause is to so many Americans. Currently, one of the focuses of the Republican Party is an emphasis on legislation to prohibit abortion funding in Obama’s health care plan. Our “Life Speaking Out” campaign asked GOP leaders to include “Family Values” in its set of proposed changes, where pro-life priorities will be included.

The majority of Americans are opposed to tax-payer funded abortions, and the new “Pledge to America” presents the GOP’s promise to ensure a prohibition on tax-funded abortions. It also includes a vow to protect health care providers, including doctors, nurses, and hospitals. This is definitely a great step towards overcoming the setbacks we have faced from the Obama administration. We want to stand behind the GOP as it stands up for life, confidently proposing changes to the legislature, and making our priorities clearer, bolder, and more decisive one step at a time.
