The horrific, anti-Life remarks from Planned Parenthood directors were on full display as they celebrated the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In an interview earlier this week, Angie Murie, executive director of Planned Parenthood Waterloo Region in Canada, was asked about sex-selection abortions. She said:
“I wrestle with gender-based abortion more than any other reason [for having an abortion]…From a macro perspective, I don’t think it is a good idea for us to be eliminating women. But if you look at it at the individual level, which is what we do, I don’t have any right to say that one person’s reason is better or worse than another’s.”
This statement is as illogical as it is disturbing.
While hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers took to the streets of Washington to advocate for the value of every human life, this Planned Parenthood director stated that it is okay for women and their doctors to end a human life simply because of that unborn child’s gender. While Planned Parenthood consistently states their support for “all women”, Murie clearly makes it known that her organization feels no obligation to protect the unborn women in the womb.
In China, an entire generation of women has been damaged by the horror of sex-selection abortions. In some regions, the sex ratio is 120 boys to 100 women, a far cry from the international average. While China has banned the policy since 1994, many doctors are still performing sex-selection abortions in that nation. In the United States, Planned Parenthood has continuously opposed a ban on sex-selection abortions.
When arguing about the need for legal abortion, pro-“choice” advocates often draw upon the need for abortion in cases where the mother’s health is in jeopardy or in cases of rape. But the number of abortions undergone for these reasons is miniscule when compared to the total number of abortions. Now, this Planned Parenthood executive director is claiming that every reason to have an abortion has the same merit. While this horrific statement may seem outrageous to us, at least she is being consistent in her position. Hopefully this consistency will reveal the true horror of the loss of just ONE human life to abortion.
While Planned Parenthood only defends the so-called “woman’s right to choose”, Pro-Lifers believe in the valuable life of every woman and man – from conception onward.
