Fresh on the heals of the 245-189 vote to repeal ObamaCare, pro-life congressional leaders held a Pro-Life Special order to call for protection of the unborn, a respect for the sanctity of human life, and an end to taxpayer funding of abortion. 
Led by pro-life hero Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), several lawmakers spoke for the unborn during the special session. Freshmen speakers included Reps. Bobby Schilling (R-IL), Martha Roby (R-AL), Ann Marie Buerkle (R-NY), Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), Marlin Stutzman (R-IL), and James Lankford (R-OK). Veteran lawmakers included Reps. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), Jean Schmidt (R-OH), Paul Broun (R-GA), Phil Roe (R-TN), and Steve Pearce (R-NM).

Two bills that would put an end to taxpayer funding of abortions were introduced just this morning.
The “Protect Life Act,” sponsored by pro-life champion Rep. Joe Pitts (PA-16), Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, amends the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) to ensure that no federal funds pay for elective abortion, prevents any federal agency from mandating abortion and protects the conscience of healthcare workers.
The “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” is sponsored by the Co-Chairs of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus, Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-IL), and creates a government-wide statutory prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion. The bill codifies the Hyde amendment which ensures that no federal funds pay for abortion under the Labor Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill along with several other pro-life riders that currently have to be considered every year.
Rep. Smith held a press conference this morning with Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) to introduce the bill, and both congressmen answered questions from the press. The video of the press conference can also be found on SBA List’s YouTube page.
The new Congress is a breath of fresh air after the pro-abortion Congress that preceeded them. The lawmakers who spoke last night will do everything in their power to protect the unborn and protect you from having to pay for abortions.
