Statement on Death of Justice Antonin Scalia

Below is the statement from Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser on the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. The statement was released Saturday night.

“Please join me in praying for the repose of the soul of Justice Antonin Scalia and for peace in the hearts of his family members. They are a hearty Italian group and likely feel their grief immediately and deeply, especially since his death was so sudden.

“His legacy in defending the constitution and the right to life of the unborn child is powerful and we pray directional. He has been a protector of every right enshrined in the Constitution. He has been the conscience of the court when it comes to honoring its intent.

“As a strong husband and father he has left behind a great legacy. It is a legacy that is living on through his children and grandchildren.

“One of my warmest memories of Justice Scalia is the nature in which he would address interns who would visit him regularly. He felt very strongly about the components of a great education, especially for those pursing politics and law.   He would quiz them on what they had read.

“At one gathering, he asked how many had read the Federalist papers. When an insufficient number raised their hands, he exclaimed ‘don’t even think about entering law or public life until you have read and fully understood this primary document.’ He was a believer in strong foundations.”
