Republicans Urged to Hold Pelosi, Schumer Accountable

Washington, D.C. – In response to U.S. Senate Democrats’ attempt to use the appropriations process to roll back President Trump’s Protect Life Rule, which stops taxpayer-funded Title X facilities from referring for abortions or commingling finances with abortion businesses, Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) President Marjorie Dannenfelser released the following statement:

“With the enactment of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement last month, Democratic Leaders Pelosi and Schumer agreed to keep anti-life poison pills out of subsequent appropriations bills. Now, on day one of subcommittee markups, Senate Democrats are threatening to derail the entire process with an amendment to force taxpayers to fund the abortion industry against their clearly expressed will. This groundbreaking budget agreement pledged to preserve the Hyde Amendment and ensure no poison pills or new riders.  By excluding new riders and poison pills, the agreement safeguarded President Trump’s Protect Life Rule so that Title X tax dollars will no longer be funneled to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood. It is unacceptable for Senate Democrats to renege on their end of the deal. We urge Republicans to hold Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer accountable.”

Background: The Bipartisan Budget Agreement reads in part: “There will be no poison pills, additional new riders…unless agreed to on a bipartisan basis by the four leaders with the approval of the President.”

SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
