SBA List will work to Inform Constituents Leading up to 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Friday evening, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) voted against Senator Deb Fischer’s (R-NE) amendment to protect the conscience rights of taxpayers and health care workers against the Obama Administration’s assault on conscience and religious liberty. This includes the HHS abortion-pill mandate. Sen. Baucus also voted against Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA) to prohibit the transportation of minors across state lines for abortion in order to evade parental involvement laws. The Senate failed to pass both amendments as part of the Budget Resolution.

“By voting against these common ground amendments Sen. Max Baucus has revealed his loyalty to the abortion lobby – not Montana parents and taxpayers,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Americans oppose the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion, do not want health care professionals forced to participate in practices to which they object, and support the right of parents to protect their young daughters from abortion. Despite this overwhelming consensus, Sen. Baucus chose party over principle.

“Not only did Senator Baucus fail to represent his constituents, but by opposing CIANA he supports the subversion of Montana’s own parental notification legislation aimed at protecting young women and building parental rights. As the 2014 elections approach, the SBA List will work to inform the people of Montana about his radical voting record.”

Polling routinely shows that more than 60 percent of Americans oppose the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion. Polling also shows that 77 percent of Americans believe it is important that health care professionals not be forced to participate in procedures or practices to which they have moral objections. Gallup polling has also found that 71 percent of Americans support parents’ right to give or refuse consent to their minor daughter’s abortion.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
