Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June Medical Services v. Russo:
“Today’s ruling is a bitter disappointment,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “It demonstrates once again the failure of the Supreme Court to allow the American people to protect the well-being of women from the tentacles of a brutal and profit-seeking abortion industry.
“Today’s ruling reinforces just how important Supreme Court judges are to advancing the pro-life cause. It is imperative that we re-elect President Trump and our pro-life majority in the U.S. Senate so we can further restore the judiciary, most especially the Supreme Court. President Trump, assisted by the pro-life Senate majority, is keeping his promise to appoint constitutionalist Supreme Court justices and other federal judges. This is evidenced by Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, who joined with Justices Thomas and Alito and dissented from today’s ruling.
“In contrast, Joe Biden, who has abandoned babies in the womb he once voted to protect, vows to stack the Court with abortion extremists.
“SBA List is working to reach four million voters – including pro-life Democrats and Independents – to defeat extremists, re-elect President Trump, and secure a solidly pro-life Senate.
“In Louisiana and across the nation, the abortion industry has once again refused to regulate itself – even defying public health directives during a pandemic. Abortionists and the facilities they operate demonstrate an appalling record of botched abortions, unsanitary conditions, and other serious violations. Women injured in these facilities are typically left to fend for themselves when complications inevitably occur. State lawmakers therefore have the right and the duty to protect their citizens, and our courts have a duty to respect that. The overwhelming majority of Americans agree: Abortion businesses deserve no special exemption from the same standards that apply to facilities that address legitimate health needs.
“We thank State Senator Katrina Jackson, a courageous pro-life Democrat and member of our National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, for leading the charge, along with Attorney General Jeff Landry and his legal team for their tireless defense of this crucial law. SBA List, our allies, and our grassroots will never stop fighting to safeguard the unborn and their mothers. We will not relent until the Supreme Court once again respects the will of the people and ceases its lawless attacks on the right to life and representative government.”
