Test for Pelosi & House Democrats: Reject Infanticide or be Exposed as Extremists

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Representative Ann Wagner (R-MO) re-introduced the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation to protect babies born alive in failed abortions. Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) asked for unanimous consent today for the House to consider the bill, and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) announced he would file a discharge petition after 30 legislative days if no action is taken in order to force a vote on the bill by the full House.

“We thank Congresswoman Wagner, Leader McCarthy, and Minority Whip Scalise for taking a stand against the extremism of abortion on demand through birth and even beyond,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “Last Congress, this same legislation to protect babies born alive passed easily in the House. The difference now is that Democrats are in control. Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats have a chance to reject infanticide where their colleagues in the Senate recently failed. If they refuse to support this compassionate bill, they will be further exposed as the party of infanticide and any protestations to the contrary will ring hollow. We urge the House to pass this bill swiftly and advance it one step closer to President Trump, who is eager to sign it.”

SBA List’s National Campaign Chair Jill Stanek, a former nurse who witnessed late-term babies born alive during abortion procedures and left to die, added, “In abortion facilities and hospitals around the country, children born alive have been denied medical care and left to die – cold, alone, abandoned and discarded like medical waste. Pleading ignorance is not an option especially in the wake of efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize infanticide. Everyone should be able to agree on equal protection under the law for these children.”

President Donald Trump in his State of the Union address called out the Democratic Party for their support of late-term abortion and even infanticide, following efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize abortion on demand through birth. Earlier this week Senate Democrats blocked a unanimous consent vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, introduced by Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE). President Trump also called on Congress to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would stop late-term abortions after five months of pregnancy when the unborn child can feel excruciating pain.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
