Majority of Bay Staters Support Commonsense Limits on Abortion
Washington, D.C. – Recently the Massachusetts Legislature passed a budget bill that includes the “Roe Act,” legislation that would enshrine a so-called “right” to abortion at any time throughout pregnancy. In addition, the bill would lower the age at which a minor can obtain an abortion without parental consent from 18 to 16 years old.
In response, the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) issued the following comment:
“We strongly urge Governor Baker to use the line-item veto to strike the ‘Roe Act’ from this budget bill,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Following the radical precedent imposed by Roe v. Wade, the ‘Roe Act’ would enshrine a ‘right’ to abortion on demand through birth and even infanticide in Massachusetts law. Furthermore, it would strip parents of their right to protect their young daughters from the predatory abortion industry. Like most Americans, the majority of Bay Staters support commonsense limits on abortion and reject the Democratic Party’s abortion extremism.
“It is shameful but not surprising that Senator Elizabeth Warren has endorsed the ‘Roe Act’, siding with the abortion lobby against her constituents. Led by Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats’ agenda for the entire nation is reflected in this bill. It is incumbent on governors like Baker to have courage and take a stand.”
Polling released by SBA List in June of 2019 shows that:
- 62% of MA voters oppose allowing more late-term abortions in the state.
- 62% of MA voters support existing laws in their state that require parental consent before minor girls can obtain abortions.
- 74% of MA voters support existing laws in their state that require late-term abortions after 24 weeks to be performed in hospitals.
