Educators’ Union Assembly Votes on Extreme Statement Supporting “Fundamental Right to Abortion,” Attacking Trump Administration

Washington, D.C.  – This past weekend the National Education Association (NEA) Representative Assembly voted to pass New Business Item 56, which takes a position in support of a “fundamental right to abortion.” NBI 56 also accuses “misogynistic forces, under Trump” of wanting to “abolish the gains of the women’s right [sic] movement.”

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) slammed the vote in a statement:

“For more than three decades the NEA has denied taking a pro-abortion position. This vote removes all doubt about where they stand,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “It is appalling and flies in the face of logic that America’s largest educators’ union, claiming to speak for more than three million members nationwide, would side with the extreme abortion lobby in embracing an explicitly anti-child and anti-family stance. Furthermore, while purporting to be non-partisan, the Assembly went on record attacking President Trump and his pro-life agenda. We encourage pro-life teachers and parents to stand up and voice their opposition loudly and clearly to union leadership.”

SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
