Launches Digital Ad Campaign During August Recess

Washington, D.C. – Today on the six-month anniversary of the introduction of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act in the U.S. House of Representatives, the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) urged House Democrats to stop blocking a vote on the bill, which protects babies born alive in failed abortions. Since Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO) introduced the bill on Feb. 5th, pro-life Republicans have made more than 80 requests for unanimous consent for the House to consider it.

SBA List joins March for Life in a tweetfest this morning from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Eastern urging members of Congress to #EndInfanticide. SBA List’s ongoing five-figure campaign during the August recess urges Democrats in Republican-leaning districts to support the bill includes digital ads as well as online social media and in-district press events.

The digital ad campaign targets Reps. Cindy Axne (IA-03), Collin Allred (TX-32), Abby Finkenauer (IA-01), Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07), Lucy McBath (GA-06), Elissa Slotkin (MI-08), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), and Haley Stevens (MI-11).

“The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act should have passed easily six months ago, yet Speaker Pelosi and House Democratic Party leaders have blocked pro-life Republicans’ requests for a vote more than 80 times,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The overwhelming majority of Americans – including 70 percent of Democrats – want Congress to protect babies who survive abortions. With lawmakers in states like New York and Illinois pushing a radical agenda of abortion on demand through birth and even infanticide, the urgency has only increased.

“We thank our pro-life Republican allies, especially Leader McCarthy, Whip Scalise, Rep. Liz Cheney, and all those in leadership who have led the charge to pass this compassionate, popular legislation. But many Democrats who represent Republican-leaning districts still have not signed Whip Scalise’s discharge petition to hold a vote. We urge them again to listen to their constituents and stand up to the extremists in their party to protect innocent children.”

201 members of Congress have signed a discharge petition filed by House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) to hold a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. House Democratic Party leaders have refused more than 80 requests by members to vote on the bill. If a majority of representatives sign the petition, it will force a vote by the full House.

Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support.)

SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
