SBA LIST PRAISES HOUSE LEADERSHIP FOR SECURING LIFE-SAVING DORNAN AMENDMENT

Says Budget Debate Dealt Significant Blow to Planned Parenthood; Pledges to Continue to Lead Effort to Defund Abortion Giant

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) praised pro-life leaders in the House for securing the Dornan Amendment in budget negotiations and pledged to continue to lead the fight to defund Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars.

“Congress will save the lives of an estimated 1,000 unborn children when it votes to restore the Dornan Amendment, banning the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for elective abortions in the District of Columbia,” said Dannenfelser.

“Our pro-life leadership in the House forced this important concession from Senate Democrats and President Obama during the budget debate. Lives will be saved because of their commitment to Life.

“While we are extremely disappointed that Planned Parenthood will continue to receive federal funding, the debate has dealt them a significant blow. Planned Parenthood has been exposed as a billion-dollar business centered around abortion, a habitual and unapologetic ally of those who wish to exploit young girls. Their pro-woman image has been shattered.

“Pro-life America isn’t done yet. We will not rest until Planned Parenthood is defunded. We will continue working with our pro-life leaders in the House to get the job done. We look forward to Congressional hearings on Planned Parenthood that will further expose them. We look forward to the debate and vote on this issue in the Senate and pledge to watch vulnerable Senators up for re-election closely.”

The SBA List spent more than $500,000 on a robust campaign to defund Planned Parenthood, which included television and radio ads, a bus tour, grassroots mobilization and print ads.  The SBA List also released statements by potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates in support of the defunding effort.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 280,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
