Washington, D.C. Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced a radio and digital campaign urging Montana Governor Steve Bullock to sign the Montana Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, legislation to protect babies born alive in failed abortions, after it passed the state legislature. Consistent with previous pro-abortion actions, Bullock has indicated he will likely veto the bill. The ads are part of a $200,000 national effort targeting pro-abortion Democrat governors who are blocking born-alive legislation.

“Governor Bullock is already on record in support of late-term abortion on demand, and now he’s indicated he will go so far as to veto legislation designed to provide care for children who survive failed abortions,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “We urge Governor Bullock to stop his abortion extremism and sign born-alive protections into law.”

Nearly 200 members of Congress, including Montana At-Large Rep. Greg Gianforte, have signed a discharge petition filed by House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) to hold a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. House Democratic Party leaders have refused more than 35 requests by members to vote on the bill. If a majority of representatives sign the petition, it will force a vote by the full House. Earlier this year U.S. Senator Steve Daines spoke on the Senate floor in support of a companion bill which was blocked by Democrats, including Senator Jon Tester.

Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support).

President Donald Trump has consistently called out the Democratic Party for their support of late-term abortion and even infanticide, following efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize abortion on demand through birth.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
