SBA List Praises Expansion of Fetal Pain Legislation
Washington, D.C. ─ Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22, Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) will host a press conference to discuss the Nationwide Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act to ban abortion past 20 weeks gestation based on scientific research that shows unborn children feel pain at that point in development and possibly even earlier. Last week, Rep. Franks announced that the bill will be amended to apply nationwide, rather than the District of Columbia only. The press conference comes one day before Rep. Franks, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s Constitution and Civil Justice Subcommittee, will oversee hearings for the legislation.

“In light of the continued emerging evidence of the brutality of late-term abortion nationwide, this conversation is long overdue. Children capable of experiencing unimaginable pain from abortion must be protected across the country,” said SBA List Vice President for Government Affairs Marilyn Musgrave.
This effort comes on the heels of numerous calls from commentators across a wide range of backgrounds for a federal late-term abortion ban. The SBA List has compiled an ever-expanding fact sheet on abortion industry negligence and brutality occurring nationwide.
Previously, SBA List grassroots activists sent nearly 40,000 messages to Congress encouraging their representatives to support a ban on late-term abortion in the District of Columbia and nationwide.
