Utah’s Longest-Serving Female Legislator Running for Chaffetz’s Seat
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) today announced its endorsement of Utah State Senator Margaret Dayton for U.S. House of Representatives. Dayton is running for the seat vacated by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who plans to retire at the end of June.
“Senator Margaret Dayton has an outstanding record of pro-life leadership in the state legislature,” said former Congresswoman and SBA List Vice President of government Affairs Marilyn Musgrave. “A nurse, mother of five, and active member of SBA List’s National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, Senator Dayton has fought long and hard to protect unborn girls from the lethal discrimination of sex-selection abortion and to stop tax dollars from funding America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. She is passionate about communicating the pro-life message to young people around the state. We are proud to endorse her and look forward to hearing her strong voice for unborn children and their mothers in Washington.”
Senator Dayton welcomed the endorsement, saying:
“It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the National Pro-Life group Susan B. Anthony List. I have had the opportunity to work with SBA List over the years through my involvement in the National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus and I look forward to our continued efforts to save innocent, unborn lives as a Congresswoman from the third district of Utah.”
State Senator Margaret Dayton is the longest-serving female legislator from Utah, first elected in 1996, with over ten years in the Utah House and ten years in the Utah Senate. Senator Dayton worked for several years as an obstetrical nurse, and her husband is an OB-GYN. She and her family reside in Orem, Utah.
Susan B. Anthony List and its partner super PAC, Women Speak Out spent more than $18 million in the 2016 election cycle, knocking on more than 1.1 million doors in battleground states to defeat Hillary Clinton and maintain a pro-life Senate. SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
