Pro-life Group Reached 80,000+ Mississippi Voters to Expose Espy’s Abortion Extremism and Elect Hyde-Smith

Washington, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated as its endorsed candidate U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith won her runoff election in Mississippi, defeating Mike Espy.

Ahead of the election, Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of SBA List undertook a five-figure campaign of digital ads and GOTV phone calls, reaching more than 80,000 Mississippi voters to expose Espy’s extreme record on abortion and mobilize them to elect Sen. Hyde-Smith.

“Tonight the pro-life voters of Mississippi rejected Mike Espy’s extremism and delivered victory for Cindy Hyde-Smith,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “While on the campaign trail, Espy claimed to oppose abortion, but his pro-abortion record in Congress told a different story. In the final days before this critical runoff election, SBA List reached out to more than 80,000 Mississippi voters to educate them about Espy’s record and the importance of voting pro-life. We congratulate Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith on her win. She is a strong pro-life, pro-woman leader. We look forward to continuing to work with her to advocate for the most vulnerable in Washington.”

Sen. Hyde-Smith was appointed to the U.S. Senate by Gov. Phil Bryant in March of 2018 to fill the seat vacated by Sen. Thad Cochran. Previously she served in the state senate for 12 years and then became commissioner of agriculture and commerce, making her the first woman elected to statewide office in Mississippi. She is a co-sponsor of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, the Conscience Protection Act, and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2017.

Hyde-Smith and her husband Mike are cattle farmers. They have a daughter and reside in Brookhaven.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
