Washington, DC ─ Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Wendy Long for U.S. Senate in New York.

“There could not be a more clear contrast between longtime pro-life leader Wendy Long and EMILY’s List poster child Senator Gillibrand,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Wendy understands that the only ‘war on women’ is the one being waged against women of faith and conscience by the Obama administration and their allies in Congress and the abortion lobby. She has boldly called on Senator Gillibrand to end the assault on Life, conscience, and religious liberty.”

“From her days as a Hill staffer to her time at Americans United for Life and her work on behalf of Supreme Court Justices who practice judicial restraint, Wendy has constantly been engaged in the fight for adherence to the Constitution and the right to Life laid out in the Declaration of Independence,” continued Dannenfelser. “We look forward to having her back on Capitol Hill and adding to the number of pro-life women in the Senate.”

Wendy Long’s pro-life activism began on Capitol Hill where she served as press secretary for pro-life Senators Gordon Humphrey (R-NH) and Bill Armstrong (R-CO). Long put her congressional work on hold to join Americans United for Life and was inspired to obtain a law degree to better defend pro-life principles. She studied at Northwestern University School of Law under the direction of pro-life legal scholar, the late Professor Victor G. Rosenblum. She also studied at Harvard Law School under the direction of Professor Mary Ann Glendon.  Her professional legal career includes serving as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and private practice with the Kirkland & Ellis law firm in New York City.

Recently, Wendy Long won a significant plurality of delegate votes at the New York State Republican Convention, winning 47 percent of the vote while her opponents each won 27 percent and 25 percent. Wendy also received the unanimous endorsement of the New York Conservative Party after winning 91 percent of the delegate votes at that party’s convention.  The GOP primary election will take place on June 26.  Wendy is already assured a place on the November ballot to face longtime abortion advocate Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of more than 365,000 Americans dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics.  Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
