Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND) for U.S. Senate in North Dakota. He will face Heidi Heitkamp in November.
“Rep. Berg’s pro-life voting record in the House of Representatives demonstrates his proven leadership to protect women and the unborn from the predatory abortion industry,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Berg is committed to protecting the most vulnerable and has voted to ban sex-selective and post-fetal pain abortions – common sense measures supported by the majority of American women. Heidi Heitkamp, on the other hand, has sought the support of the abortion extremists at EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood. North Dakota needs a leader who will fight for the best interests of unborn children and women, not cater to the abortion industry.”
Rep. Rick Berg has served in the U.S. House since 2010 when he defeated an incumbent with 55 percent of the vote. Berg served in the North Dakota state legislature from 1984 to 2001, has earned a 100 percent rating from the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) and is a co-sponsor of the D.C. Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, and the Protect Life Act.
Former Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp was endorsed by EMILY’s List in her 2000 run for Governor.
During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate, and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.
The Susan B. Anthony List, and its connected Political Action Committee, the SBA List Candidate Fund, are dedicated to electing candidates and pursuing policies that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the election, education, promotion, and mobilization of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
