Washington, DC ─ Today, the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced its endorsement of Jonathan Paton for Arizona’s First Congressional District.  He will face former Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick in November.

“The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse Jonathon Paton,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Paton has a strong record of protecting life, both as a soldier who defended us in Iraq and as an Arizona state Senator who voted to ban the gruesome practice of partial birth abortion. Paton’s opponent, however, has a record of siding with the abortion lobbyists at EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood over Arizona women and families.  The contrast between these two candidates is clear, and we look forward to seeing Jonathon Paton be a voice for Life in Congress.”

A former Arizona state representative and state senator, Jonathan Paton received national media attention in 2009 when he announced that he was being voluntarily deployed to Iraq as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. While serving, he became the only state representative to be reelected while deployed. Paton has reached the “Young Gun” status of the NRCC Young Gun program and received the endorsement of National Right to Life, Arizona Right to Life, Guardian Leadership PAC, Gov. Jan Brewer and numerous elected officials throughout Arizona.

During her time in Congress, Kirkpatrick voted for the largest expansion of taxpayer funded abortion through Obamacare and for federal funding of Planned Parenthood (Title X).  A longtime abortion supporter, Kirkpatrick has been endorsed by EMILY’s List and the National Organization for Women.

During the 2010 election cycle, SBA List spent $11 million and was involved in 90 races, 62 of which resulted in victories. Successes included: defeating 15 of 20 so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill, increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent, filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate, and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
