SBA List Candidate Fund Endorses Jane Norton for U.S. Senate

Washington – Today the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund, a national pro-life political action committee, announced their endorsement of Jane Norton, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Norton is the first U.S. senate candidate to be endorsed for the 2010 election cycle.

“The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is proud to endorse Jane Norton for U.S. Senate in Colorado,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Jane Norton is exactly the type of authentic, honest pro-life candidate Americans are hungry for, and that’s why Susan B. Anthony List is prepared to highlight her race among a handful of priority contests in 2010. Unlike some in the U.S. Senate, Jane won’t sell her soul for 30 pieces of silver, and call it ‘reform.’ We need her voice defending Life here in Washington.

“Jane Norton would bring an impressive pro-life record to the Senate. As Colorado’s top health official she honored the consciences of Colorado taxpayers by de-funding America’s number one abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. And as Lieutenant Governor, Norton led the fight to streamline Colorado’s adoption process, improving the lives of families across the state. Her leadership and experience are sorely needed in the U.S. Senate. Jane Norton’s authentic pro-woman, pro-life voice will make a difference for millions of Americans, born and unborn.”

The Norton Record on Life: While serving as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Health and Environment, Norton ended state funding for abortion-provider Planned Parenthood in 1999, citing a 1984 state constitutional amendment that banned state funds for abortion. From 2003 to 2007, Norton served as Colorado’s Lieutenant Governor. She was the third woman and first Republican woman to hold the position. In 2003, Norton chaired the Lieutenant Governor’s Committee to Promote Adoption, which investigated ways to improve the adoption process in Colorado. The committee’s efforts culminated in legislation signed into law in 2005. The law streamlined Colorado’s adoption process and strengthened provisions allowing Medicaid coverage for adopted children—a change especially important for those with special needs.

Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund endorsements are promoted to the organization’s nationwide membership of over 280,000 Americans. The SBA List Candidate Fund endorses pro-life female candidates, as well as pro-life male candidates who run against female candidates in favor of abortion rights.

During the 2008 election cycle, the Susan B. Anthony List bundled over $1 million in direct candidate contributions from its members.

The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 280,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
