Ernst will Face Abortion Extremist Rep. Bruce Braley in General Election
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund declared victory when U.S. Senate candidate Joni Ernst won the Iowa Republican primary. Leading up to Tuesday’s primary, the Susan B. Anthony List contacted more than 80,000 voters by email and by phone with a message from SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. Ernst, who will face Congressman Bruce Braley in the general election, was previously endorsed by the SBA List Candidate Fund in April.
“Tonight Iowa voters sent a clear message in supporting this articulate and accomplished pro-life woman leader. Joni has been a champion for women and the unborn in Iowa where she helped put an end to taxpayer funding of abortion and to protect women from dangerous ‘telemed’ abortions,” said Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “We know that Joni will continue to be a voice for the voiceless in Washington and look forward to her victory over Bruce Braley in November. Rep. Braley’s extreme pro-abortion views have earned him the support of NARAL and Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion provider. Last year, Braley refused to support a compassionate, common ground limit on abortion after 20 weeks – more than halfway through pregnancy.
“While Braley’s loyalty lies with the abortion lobby, Joni stands with Iowans. As both a mother and a soldier, Joni knows what it means to protect the weak and vulnerable. Her courageous leadership is urgently needed in the U.S. Senate, where there are currently only two pro-life women serving.”
Joni Ernst was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2011 and serves as Assistant Minority Leader. State Senator Ernst is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Iowa Army National Guard and served as a company commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Joni Ernst has been endorsed by incumbent Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds and former Gov. Sarah Palin. Reynolds and Palin were both previously endorsed by the SBA List Candidate Fund.
The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
