Pro-life Group Targets Sen. Bob Casey, Jr. on Obamacare Vote
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List announced a $50,000 radio ad buy and over 400,000 robo-calls to socially conservative voters in Pennsylvania. The campaign chiefly targets Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey, Jr. for his vote in favor of the health care law that forces taxpayers to fund abortion. The radio ad exposing Casey’s record will run alongside an additional ad targeting incumbent Pennsylvania state treasurer Rob McCord. McCord has been endorsed by America’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood. Both radio ads will air on Christian and talk radio stations through Election Day.
“Our radio ads will send the message that Senator Casey and State Treasurer Rob McCord are not friends to pro-life Pennsylvania taxpayers. Pennsylvanians deserve leaders who will respect life as well as the consciences of taxpayers, not cater to the abortion industry or cave to political pressure,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.
“With polls showing Senator Casey’s vulnerability, there is now a real chance to ensure that he understands the consequences of calling himself pro-life but repeatedly failing to stand up for the unborn, their mothers, and pro-life Pennsylvanians. Chief among Senator Casey’s pro-life betrayals was when he chose party over principle and cast a key vote for Obamacare, the largest expansion of abortion on-demand since Roe v. Wade. Senator Casey later supported taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood – America’s largest abortion provider – all while still claiming to be pro-life. There’s no statute of limitation on the consequences of those votes and we hope to see Senator Casey defeated on Election Day.”
A partial script of the radio ad focusing on Senator Casey follows:
“Politicians say the darnedest things.
Bob Casey junior says he’s pro-life…
…but Casey Jr. voted for Obamacare…
…the largest expansion of abortion in U.S. history.
Even forcing churches to pay for abortion inducing drugs against their religious beliefs.
Bob Casey Jr. can’t be trusted to protect Life.”
In December 2009, the SBA List ran a TV ad in Pennsylvania encouraging Senator Bob Casey, Jr. to embrace the pro-life legacy of his father, Governor Bob Casey (D-Pa.) by opposing the health care bill which allows for taxpayer funding of abortion. In a landmark speech, the late Gov. Casey said “Nothing could be more foreign to the American experience than legalized abortion. It is inconsistent with our national character, with our national purpose, with all that we’ve done, and with everything we hope to be.”
During the 2010 midterm elections, the Susan B. Anthony List defeated 15 out of 20 of the Democrats who failed to hold firm on their pro-life principles during the vote over the Affordable Care Act. The SBA List launched its Votes Have Consequences program to hold these so-called “pro-life” Democrats accountable for that career-defining vote which opened the flood gates for taxpayer funding of abortion.
The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
