WASHINGTON, D.C.Tonight, the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List congratulated endorsed candidate and pro-life stalwart Congressman Steve King on his re-election in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Congressman King defeated EMILY’s List endorsed former Iowa first lady Christie Vilsack.

“By re-electing Congressman King, tonight Iowa voters affirmed their desire for authentic pro-life, pro-woman leadership,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “Steve King is a pro-life hero who has boldly and tirelessly fought for Iowa women, families and pro-life taxpayers in the halls of Congress.

“Voters recognized that Christie Vilsack was more concerned about catering to abortion industry giants at Planned Parenthood than she was about representing the real views of Iowa women on the issue of abortion. The SBA List is elated with Congressman King’s victory and we look forward to his continued pro-life leadership in Congress.”

The SBA List Candidate Fund and SBA List members nationwide contributed a total of $37,000 in direct and bundled donations to Congressman King’s campaign. In August, the SBA List held grassroots rallies and press conferences in Sioux City, Des Moines, and Mason City, IA in support of Congressman King as part of the group’s five-swing state “Women Speak Out: Abortion is NOT Health Care” bus tour. Leading up to Election Day, the SBA List also mobilized its Iowa members and activists to get out the vote for Steve King.

Steve King has co-sponsored numerous pro-life bills in the House of Representatives including: defunding UNFPA, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act and the Abortion Non-Discrimination Act.  He added a pro-life amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations bill (HR 2112) that prohibits any funds in the bill from being spent on RU-486.  He also participated in the Values Bus Tour in Iowa in August 2011 sponsored by the SBA List, Family Research Council, and the National Organization for Marriage.

During the 2012 election cycle, the Susan B. Anthony List spent $11.2 million nationwide to accomplish three goals: 1) ensure the presidential challenger made specific pro-life commitments, 2) combat the “war on women” narrative, and 3) expose the extreme abortion agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party of abortion on-demand paid for by the taxpayers.

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
