Washington, D.C. – Pro-life activists led by the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) held a press conference on Wednesday, April 24 at 11:00 a.m. in front of Rep. Conor Lamb’s district office in Pittsburgh to call on him to support the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation to protect babies born alive during failed abortions. SBA List’s National Campaign Chair Jill Stanek, a former nurse who witnessed babies being born alive and left to die spoke alongside local pro-life leaders: Jeremy Samek, Esq., Senior Counsel, Pennsylvania Family Council and Selene Cerankosky, President, Students for Life of Robert Morris University, and Pittsburgh & Pennsylvania Rally Captain, Students for Life of America.

The event is part of a five-figure national campaign that includes digital ads in eight Republican leaning congressional districts currently represented by Democrats urging them to support the Born-Alive bill.

“Speaker Pelosi and House Democratic Party leaders have repeatedly blocked compassionate, common-ground legislation to protect babies who survive abortions. Rep. Lamb campaigned as a moderate, but he has not yet signed the discharge petition to stop the obstruction,” said Stanek. “As extremists in New York, Virginia, and other states push to expand abortion on demand through the moment of birth, vulnerable abortion survivors desperately need Congress to act. As a nurse I held one of these precious children, who had been abandoned to die alone in the hospital’s soiled utility room, for the remainder of his short life. Pennsylvanians deserve to know whether Rep. Lamb will go on the record and take a stand against infanticide.”

Nearly 200 members of Congress have signed a discharge petition filed by House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) to hold a vote on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. House Democratic Party leaders have refused more than 30 requests by members to vote on the bill. If a majority of representatives sign the petition, it will force a vote by the full House.

Nationwide polling released by SBA List finds that 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support.)

In his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump called out the Democratic Party for their support of late-term abortion and even infanticide, following efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize abortion on demand through birth.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
