PRO-LIFE POWERHOUSE WINS ‘GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR’ AT WEYRICH AWARDS DINNER

Susan B. Anthony List Shares Top Conservative Honor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) is pleased to announce it is the recipient of the 2010 Grassroots Organization of the Year, presented at the 2011 Weyrich Awards Dinner on Wednesday night.  The group shared the award with the Tea Party Patriots.

The dinner celebrated the outstanding achievements of leading media personalities, movement leaders, and activists who made significant contributions to advancing the conservative cause in 2010, inspired by legendary conservative organization head Paul Weyrich.  Sens. Rand Paul and Mike Lee, joined by Reps. Allen West and Scott Rigell, keynoted the event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C.

“On behalf of the 280,000 members of the SBA List nationwide, we are grateful for this honor,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “This past election cycle, grassroots organizations showed their vital importance in correcting the abuses of government.  Obama and his pro-abortion allies in Congress were on a collision course with public opinion when they passed a health care bill that allowed for taxpayer funds to pay for abortions.  Now, with a strongly pro-life House leadership, we will mobilize our pro-life grassroots army to pass a government-wide ban on taxpayer funding of abortion and defund Planned Parenthood.”

The Susan B. Anthony List spent $11 million during the 2010 midterm election cycle and was involved in 90 races including 62 wins and 28 losses. SBA List’s Votes Have Consequences bus tour stopped in 23 cities in 5 states in the weeks leading up to the elections with the goal of defeating so-called “pro-life” Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care reform bill.  They defeated 15 of their 20 targets through their grassroots efforts.

Other successes include: increasing the number of pro-life women in the House by 70 percent; filling the void of pro-life women in the U.S. Senate and increasing the number of pro-life women governors from one to four.   In head-to-head races of endorsed candidates against those of pro-choice counterpart EMILY’s List, SBA List won 83 percent of the time.

Recently, the group has led the effort to defund abortion provider Planned Parenthood following the release of undercover footage from Planned Parenthood clinics across the country showing employees aiding and abetting in alleged sex trafficking of minors.  The organization has collected 40,000 signatures of grassroots Americans who are fed up with having to fund abortions at www.StopAbortionFunding.com, and is working with Congress to stop Title X Family Planning funds from going to businesses that perform abortions.

Pro-life Congressional leader Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) will keynote their annual gala next week.  Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made her well-known “Mama Grizzlies” remarks at SBA List’s Celebration of Life Breakfast last May.
