Strong Majority of Americans Reject Dems’ Extreme Agenda of Abortion on Demand Through Birth

Washington, D.C. –  A new poll released today by Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) finds that:

  • 77 percent of voters support legislation to ensure that a baby who survives a failed abortion be given the same medical treatment as any other baby born prematurely at the same age (55 percent strongly support).
  • 62 percent of voters oppose legislation to allow late-term abortions, even up to the point when a woman is in labor (50 percent strongly oppose).

“Americans overwhelmingly reject the Democratic Party’s extreme agenda of abortion on demand through birth and even beyond. Three in four voters agree babies born alive during a failed abortion should be protected in law, and nearly two-thirds oppose efforts to allow late-term abortion even at the moment of delivery, like those in Virginia and New York,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “Democrats’ obstruction of compassionate legislation to protect these vulnerable children exposes them as the party of infanticide and shows how radically out of step they are with the American people. We urge both chambers of Congress to bring this bill to the floor for a recorded vote. Voters deserve to know where their legislators stand. Abortion extremists who betray their constituents will be held accountable at the ballot box.”

McLaughlin & Associates conducted the survey of 1,000 likely general election voters nationwide between February 6 and 10, 2019. All interviews were conducted online; survey invitations were distributed randomly within predetermined geographic units. These units were structured to correlate with actual voter turnout nationwide in a general election. The sample of 1,000 likely general election voters has an accuracy of +/- 3.1% at a 95% confidence interval.

President Donald Trump in his State of the Union address called out the Democratic Party for their support of late-term abortion and even infanticide, following efforts in New York and Virginia to legalize abortion on demand through birth. Last week Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) asked for unanimous consent for the House to consider the bill, and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) announced he would file a discharge petition after 30 legislative days if no action is taken in order to force a vote on the bill by the full House.

President Trump also called on Congress to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would stop late-term abortions after five months of pregnancy when the unborn child can feel excruciating pain.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
