Pro-life Groups Blast Abortion Business for Opposing PA State Rep. Margo Davidson, Cousin of Kermit Gosnell Victim Semika Shaw

Washington, D.C. ─ Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) and the Pennsylvanian Family Institute blasted Planned Parenthood for endorsing the primary opponent of Pennsylvania State Rep. Margo Davidson, a Democrat. Planned Parenthood previously supported Davidson but turned their back on her after she voted for a 2011 bill to increase health and safety standards for abortion facilities. The bill was introduced following the discovery of Kermit Gosnell’s “house of horrors.” Davidson’s cousin, Semika Shaw, died in 2000 after a botched abortion at Gosnell’s facility.

“In opposing the woman who sought to defend women, Planned Parenthood is taking the most anti-woman posture they could possibly take,” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “America’s top abortion business has heaped pain upon grief for Rep. Davidson, who courageously sought to defend the health, safety, and dignity of women after learning that her own cousin was a victim of Kermit Gosnell’s brutality. Rep. Davidson was right when she said that for the ‘pro-choice’ community, ‘the institution [of abortion is] more important than the individual lives.’ This is another reminder of their ‘clear out the human weeds’ heritage of eugenicist Margaret Sanger.”

“It is disappointing, but not surprising, that Planned Parenthood is seeking to silence a powerful voice for Kermit Gosnell’s victims,” said Michael Geer, president of the Pennsylvania Family Institute. The decision to attack Rep. Davidson shows where Planned Parenthood’s interests truly lie: power and profits, not women’s health.”

The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
