Legislation Requiring Humane Treatment of the Remains of Aborted Children Shows Pro-life Momentum

Washington, D.C. – The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) today praised the Ohio Legislature for passing the Unborn Child Dignity Act (S.B. 27), which requires the Ohio Department of Health to establish rules for proper and humane burial or cremation of aborted children. The bill now heads to Governor Mike DeWine for his signature.

Last year the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a similar Indiana law, signed in 2016 by then-Governor Mike Pence, requiring the humane and dignified disposition of human fetal remains.

“Momentum is growing to recognize the humanity of the unborn child in our laws,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “The discovery of the remains of thousands of abortion victims on the late abortionist Ulrich Klopfer’s property last year starkly exposed the brutal reality of abortion and spurred both state and federal lawmakers to call for action. At a minimum, our unborn brothers and sisters deserve to be treated with basic dignity and respect in death, while we work to protect them all and see that they are welcomed in life.

“We congratulate our pro-life allies, especially Ohio Right to Life and former Senator Joe Uecker, and thank them for their diligent work to advance this much-needed legislation. We look forward to seeing pro-life Governor DeWine sign it swiftly into law.”

SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
