Pro-life Budget Ensures Taxpayers Fund Health Care, Not Abortion Giant Planned Parenthood
Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) praised Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska legislature for enacting a budget that prevents Title X taxpayer dollars from funding abortion giant Planned Parenthood in the state.
“We thank Governor Ricketts and Nebraska legislators for crafting a budget that protects taxpayers from funding abortion giant Planned Parenthood,” said former U.S. Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave, SBA List’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “Abortion is not health care and Planned Parenthood, which is under federal investigation for its role in the harvest and sale of aborted babies’ body parts, does not need or deserve taxpayer funds.”
Title X is Planned Parenthood’s second largest source of taxpayer funding. In April 2017, President Trump signed H.J. Res 43 to overturn former President Obama’s regulation forcing states to fund Planned Parenthood through Title X.
Planned Parenthood controls more than 35 percent of the national market for abortions and is not a significant provider of medical care in the United States. According to its most recent annual report, it performed 321,384 abortions in a single year, and more than 1.6 million in the past five years.
President Trump has made four specific commitments to the pro-life movement, including redirecting Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding to community health centers that outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities by an average of 20 to 1 nationwide and do not perform abortions.
