Washington, DC ─ The women leaders of national pro-life organizations are speaking out in support of Indiana Senate candidate Richard Mourdock following the media’s coverage of his pro-life stand.

“Richard Mourdock said that life is always a gift from God, and we couldn’t agree more. To report his statement as an endorsement of rape is either willfully ignorant or malicious. Congressman Donnelly should not underestimate our ability to understand Mourdock’s meaning.  During the same debate, the Congressman once again claimed that he was a pro-life candidate. Actions speak louder than words, and Joe Donnelly’s vote forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions under Obamacare is all Hoosiers need to know about where Joe Donnelly really stands.” – Marjorie Dannenfelser, President, Susan B. Anthony List

“We support Richard Mourdock in his belief in the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. The issue at stake here is more of a theological question, and it needs to be discussed in a more in-depth and sensitive manner among people who understand the theology of God’s sovereignty in the midst of evil acts. Murdock is a strong pro-life candidate as opposed to his opponent, Joe Donnelly, who is inconsistent on life issues and is one of the Stupak 12 who cast a deciding vote in the House of Representatives on ObamaCare, which provides federal funding for abortion-inducing drugs and surgical abortion.” – Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women Political Action Committee

“Richard Mourdock’s statement concerning a child who is conceived from rape in no way demeans the rape victim nor excuses the rapist. Rape is an act of violence against an innocent woman and any woman who goes through this ordeal deserves to be treated with deep compassion, given unqualified support and special care. However, these terrible circumstances of conception do not change the fact that abortion itself is also an act of violence against another innocent victim. And irrationally, some is our society expect her to kill her unborn child, not for something that the child has done, but rather for the crime of the father. Mourdock’s statement does not excuse or condone the rape but rather points out that God can lovingly take even these worst and rare circumstances and turn evil into good. Mourdock stands by his pro-life principles which is not the case with Joe Donnelley. As one of the few pro-life Democrats in the last Congress, Donnelley caved and voted for ObamaCare even after pledging not to do so because of its abortion mandates. We know that there are those, even within our own political party who disagree with this position and we understand their differing with us. However, we at the RNC for Life stand with Richard Mourdock and his unwavering support of God’s precious gift of life.” – Phyllis Schlafly, National President, RNC for Life & Dianne Edmondson, Executive Director, RNC for Life

The Susan B. Anthony List, and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates that will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List will emphasize the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
