Washington, D.C. – Yesterday Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed legislation to protect unborn children from abortion when a heartbeat can be detected. The bill passed 78-37 in the House of Representatives and 34-14 in the Senate.

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) praised the signing of the bill in a statement:

“We thank Governor Bryant and Mississippi lawmakers for their bold pro-life leadership,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “The people of Mississippi, like most Americans, reject the extreme status quo of abortion on demand through birth imposed by Roe v. Wade. The beating heart of a vulnerable unborn child should awaken the conscience of our nation to the brutality of abortion. It is no wonder we see growing momentum to humanize our laws, and we hope more states will follow suit.”

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
