Washington, D.C. – Today the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) announced that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will receive the group’s 2019 Distinguished Leader Award at its 12th annual Campaign for Life Gala. The event will take place Monday, June 3 at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley will give the keynote address. Hon. Diane Black of Tennessee will give special remarks. Longtime pro-life advocate and businesswoman Kathy Ireland will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

“We are proud to honor our longtime friend, Nikki Haley, for her strong pro-life leadership,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “During her time as governor, Nikki signed landmark legislation to end brutal late-term abortions in South Carolina. President Trump then made a very wise decision in selecting her to serve as ambassador to the United Nations. In this role she was a fierce defender of unborn children and their mothers and of American interests in protecting the vulnerable. She stood up to the international abortion lobby and played a key role in advancing the Trump administration’s pro-life priorities, resulting in historic gains for life on a global scale.

“We are also delighted to present our Distinguished Leader Award to Mitch McConnell, whose vision and courage have been critical to the successful confirmation of two outstanding Supreme Court justices and more than 100 federal court judges nominated by President Trump,” Dannenfelser continued. “Throughout the most intense battles over the fate of the courts – including the accompanying intimidation tactics – Leader McConnell has stared down the radical left with wisdom and unwavering determination. For this and for his lifetime of pro-life leadership in the U.S. Senate, we are immensely grateful.”

As governor of South Carolina, Haley signed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act into law. As ambassador to the United Nations, she championed the human rights of unborn children and their mothers. During negotiations at the Commission on the Status of Women, Haley notably worked to omit pro-abortion language from conversations concerning the family. She also promoted the expansion of the Global Protect Life policy, or Mexico City Policy, to stop taxpayer funding of the abortion industry overseas.

In addition to leading the charge on judges, McConnell has been instrumental in advancing key pieces of pro-life legislation including the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. McConnell has also ensured that any effort to repeal and replace Obamacare using budget reconciliation also includes provisions to stop the flow of Medicaid dollars to abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood and prioritized using the Congressional Review Act to allow states to redirect Title X taxpayer funding.

Previous speakers at the SBA List Campaign for Life Gala include President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

SBA List is a network of more than 787,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
