Polling Reveals Davis’ Pro-Abortion Position Dramatically Out of Step with Women

Washington, D.C. – Today, pro-abortion activist state senator Wendy Davis (D-TX) will speak at the National Press Club. Prior to the event, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national pro-life group the Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List), pointed to recent polling showing that a majority of women support the legislation Davis became famous opposing. SBA List suggested three questions for reporters to ask Davis during the Q&A:

  • Five major polls conducted in recent weeks show that women nationwide support limiting abortion past 20 weeks – and do so in stronger numbers than men. How do you speak for women when in fact your position is so far outside the mainstream?
  • If you cannot support a limit on abortion past 20 weeks, at which point science has revealed that the unborn child feels pain, do you support any limit to abortion before birth?
  • In May, former staff members of the Aaron Women’s Clinic in Houston, TX, brought forward photographic evidence of horrific late-term abortions and potential infanticide committed by Texas abortionist Douglas Karpen. The former staffers also allege that Karpen abused and harassed women under sedation. If you do not support strengthening the health and safety standards of abortion clinics and increased scrutiny on abortion facilities, do you support any effort at all to ensure women are treated with dignity and respect and that born-alive infants are protected?

Recent national polling by Quinnipiac, National Journal, Huffington Post, NBC/Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post/ABC News all found that a plurality or majority of Americans support limiting abortion after 20 weeks gestation and that women support the measure in higher numbers than men.

The SBA List has compiled an ever-expanding fact sheet on abortion industry negligence and brutality occurring nationwide.

The Susan B. Anthony List and its affiliated Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, are dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women at all levels of government.  The SBA List is a network of more than 365,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
