“Dignity for Aborted Children Act” Mirrors State Law Signed by Then-Gov. Mike Pence

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) introduced federal legislation to require respectful disposition of the remains of unborn children, in light of the discovery of the remains of 2,246 unborn children in late abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer’s Illinois home and ongoing investigation by local authorities.

The Dignity for Aborted Children Act’s co-sponsors include Sens. Todd Young (R-IN), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Cornyn (R-TX), Rick Scott (R-FL), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), and Ted Cruz (R-TX). The bill is similar to an Indiana law, signed in 2016 by then-Governor Mike Pence and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year, requiring the humane and dignified disposition of human fetal remains.

Additionally, Sens. Young and Braun sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General William Barr requesting assistance in the multi-state investigation.

Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) President Marjorie Dannenfelser praised Sen. Braun’s legislation in a statement:

“The discovery of the remains of over 2,200 aborted children in late abortionist Ulrich Klopfer’s home was a sickening reminder of the abortion industry’s radical commitment to abortion above health, safety and basic human dignity. Mothers whose little ones were aborted by Klopfer were retraumatized by the news, wondering whether their babies were among those stockpiled on his property. While the Supreme Court has upheld Indiana’s law requiring respectful treatment of the remains of aborted babies, Illinois and many other states have no such law. We are grateful to Senator Braun for introducing the Dignity for Aborted Children Act and hope the Senate will pass it swiftly.”
