Washington, D.C. – Today Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed legislation to protect unborn children from abortion when a heartbeat can be detected. The film and television industry labor union Writers Guild of America, actress Alyssa Milano, and more than 40 celebrities have threatened to boycott the state.

The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) praised the signing of the bill in a statement:

“We thank Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia legislature for championing this compassionate law,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.  “The growing momentum to protect unborn babies from their first heartbeats is further proof Americans reject the extremism on display in New York, Virginia, and in Congress, as Democratic Party leaders back abortion on demand through birth and even infanticide. Pro-abortion Hollywood elites clearly underestimated the people of Georgia in thinking they could be bullied. We hope their courage will inspire even more states to stand up to the abortion lobby.”

Dr. Kathi Aultman, a former abortionist and an associate scholar with SBA List’s research arm Charlotte Lozier Institute, traveled to Georgia to give testimony on the bill.

SBA List is a network of more than 700,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
