Human Resources Manager, Susan B. Anthony List

Company Overview: Susan B. Anthony List, Inc. (SBA List) was founded in 1992 primarily to fund pro-life candidates and engage the grassroots in lobbying Congress on pro-life issues. Our programs have now expanded to include a robust canvassing program to educate voters and win elections in states across the nation as well as legislative efforts at both the federal and state levels.  In the past election cycle (2017-2018), SBA List raised and spent $28 Million.

Position Overview and Objectives: SBA List is opening this new position, Human Resources Manager, to foster more growth amongst our employees and employee programs.  The Human Resources Manager will be responsible for various aspects of human resources for SBA List and our affiliate organizations, Charlotte Lozier Institute and Life Issues Institute.  These areas include recruitment and training, performance management programs, compliance, and employee support.  The Human Resources Manager will work with the Vice President of Administration to restructure existing policies and procedures to better serve this growing organization.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Training:

  • Lead recruiting activities for a growing 40+-person organization and ensure training on all office systems as well as professional development for new hires
  • Collaborate with Executive Team to deliver training for teams to build competencies and support professional development.

Performance Management:

  • Perfect performance management system including performance reviews, performance feedback, performance improvement and discipline, and performance recognition.
  • Develop and manage annual compensation programs, including salary and merit increases, equity and benchmarking reviews, and promotions.
  • Conduct and participate in appropriate salary benchmarking surveys and use findings for the betterment of existing programs
  • Standardize position descriptions to be refined for individual employees.

Compliance:

  • Prepare routine reporting for senior management and Board committees.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
  • Research compliance related issues and day-to-day activities and make recommendations for resolution.
  • Continue professional development in order to keep abreast of current employment and labor laws

Employee Support:

  • Onboard new staff members
  • Counsel employees on compensation questions and issues.
  • Administer health and other benefit programs
  • Coordinate short-term and long-term disability claims
  • Manage family and medical leave
  • Recommend and lead in formulating employment policies
  • Keep the employee handbook up to date
  • Triage personnel matters
  • Implement security policies

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also a self-starter
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Critical thinker
  • Problem solver

Advisor to the President for Donor Relations

Position Overview and Objectives: The Advisor to the President for Donor Relations will be responsible for a raising support from a caseload of SBA List donors and prospects and be able to effectively communicate annual pro-life political, policy and research goals of the organization to top political and SBA List donors throughout the country.  The role will be responsible for building strong relationships with current and prospective donors, soliciting and closing major gifts with donors effectively, and stewarding donors to renew and increase support in future years. Responsibilities require traveling at least 50% of the time, and working from SBA List’s main office in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new and current donors in order to grow the major gift portfolio.
  • Meet both fundraising and relationship-building goals by managing a portfolio of up to 100 donors and prospects capable of making an annual gift of at least $10,000.
  • Gather, record and properly classify information related to prospects and donors in a timely manner in the SBA List database.
  • Work closely with the VP of Member Relations to identify and cultivate top political prospects likely to support the largest pro-life grassroots field team in the country.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and be able to communicate SBA List political, policy and research priorities and funding opportunities of the organization.
  • Utilize SBA List staff to participate in joint visits in their areas of expertise.
  • Communicate with donors through personal visits, telephone calls, emails and correspondence.
  • Provide input on department projects and strategies to increase income.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • 3 years of fundraising or related experience
  • Excellent skills in Word; database experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills; highly developed verbal and written skills; ability to make presentations;
  • High degree of knowledge of public policy issues and pro-life movement is preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising;
  • Ability to travel.

Digital Communications Fellow

Position Overview and Objectives: The Digital Communications Fellow is a one year opportunity to work closely with the Digital & Creative Director to support and promote the efforts of the Susan B. Anthony List family of organizations. Primary responsibilities include maintaining and optimizing the organization’s websites and engaging with supporters through the organization’s social media channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Websites:
    • Create/edit posts and pages
    • Keep SBA website up-to-date
    • Split testing & optimization for donations/email signups
  • Social Media:
    • Create and schedule engaging images and copy
    • Manage social media calendar
    • Monitor and respond to messages and moderate posts
    • Track results and engagement
  • Other responsibilities as assigned:
    • Assist with email program
    • Assist with management of SBA List mobile app, Life Impact
    • Assist with setting up digital ad campaigns
