Washington, D.C.The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) celebrated today as the Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) signed legislation to stop dangerous mail-order abortion drugs in the state.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser praised Lee and the Tennessee Legislature, saying:

“We thank Governor Lee and all our local allies for delivering much-needed safeguards against mail-order abortion drugs. While pro-abortion Democrats in Washington hypocritically seek to impose abortion on demand until birth nationwide under the guise of ‘women’s health,’ brave Tennesseans are standing up to their reckless agenda. As we await a final decision in the Dobbs case that could return this right to all Americans, pro-life leaders truly are on the side of women and children.”

first-of-its-kind study in the journal Health Services and Managerial Epidemiology found that the rate of emergency room visits related to chemical abortion drugs increased by more than 500% from 2002-2015. In the last year Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas have enacted state-level safeguards against mail-order abortion drugs, with additional states considering action.

Analysis by Charlotte Lozier Institute finds that 47% of abortions in Tennessee were chemical abortions as of 2018. A state law enacted in 2020 requires that women undergoing chemical abortions be provided information on safe, effective abortion pill reversal.

Alternatives to Abortion: Pro-life pregnancy centers in Tennessee provided vital services to more than 65,000 women, men, youth and families in 2019, at a $5.2 million value, including $3.2 million in medical services.

SBA List is a network of 900,000 pro-life Americans nationwide, dedicated to ending abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders.
