Washington, D.C. – Today Susan B. Anthony List’s Candidate Fund PAC announced its endorsement of Leslie Rutledge for lieutenant governor of Arkansas.
“We are proud to endorse our friend and stalwart pro-life ally Leslie Rutledge for lieutenant governor of Arkansas, a deeply pro-life state,” said Hon. Marilyn Musgrave, SBA List’s vice president of government affairs. “Never one to shy from even the toughest battles, Leslie has vigorously defended unborn children and mothers as attorney general. From standing up for unborn babies with beating hearts and defunding abortion giant Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars, to calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to restore the right of all Americans to enact life-saving laws, she has fought tenaciously for Arkansans’ values and won time and time again. As a working mother, she defies the harmful lie that women need abortion to succeed. Voices like Leslie’s are needed at all levels of government now more than ever and we urge pro-life primary voters to support her on May 24.”
Rutledge is the 56th attorney general of Arkansas, first elected in 2014. She is the first woman and Republican to hold the position, and gave birth to her daughter in 2018 while serving in office. She has successfully defended Arkansas’ Heartbeat Protection and Unborn Child Protection Acts, as well as the state’s right to end taxpayer-funded contracts with Planned Parenthood and stop abortions as medically unnecessary during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has championed pro-life pregnancy centers against pro-abortion attacks on their freedom of speech and, more recently, joined 24 state attorneys general on an amicus brief supporting Mississippi and calling on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
Rutledge began her career as a clerk at the Arkansas Court of Appeals before joining former Governor Mike Huckabee’s team as deputy counsel. Her positions have included deputy prosecuting attorney, deputy counsel for Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign, deputy counsel for the NRCC, and counsel for the RNC. Rutledge and her husband, Boyce, have a daughter and live in Pulaski County.
