Washington, D.C. – Tomorrow the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), will hold a hearing on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, historic legislation to stop abortion more than halfway through pregnancy and strengthen equal protection measures for babies born alive after a failed abortion.
WHAT: Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on:
Late-Term Abortion: Protecting Babies Born Alive & Capable of Feeling Pain
WHEN: Tuesday,March 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM
WHERE: Dirksen Senate Office Building 226
Susan B. Anthony List spokeswomen Marjorie Dannenfelser (President), Marilyn Musgrave (Vice President of Government Affairs), and Jill Stanek (National Campaign Chair) are available to discuss the hearing as well as growing momentum at the state level to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.
“Last week, South Dakota became the latest state to pass its own law stopping abortion at five months – more than halfway through pregnancy,” said SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser. “South Carolina will send a similar bill to the Governor’s desk later this week. This flurry of activity at the state level, led by women lawmakers, is indicative of the continued momentum to pass this and other human-centered legislation on a national scale. The Pain-Capable bill has been passed twice by U.S. House, and received majority bipartisan support in its first ever vote in the Senate last September.”
Majority witnesses in favor of the legislation are (left to right): Angelina Baglini Nguyen, J.D, Colleen A. Malloy, M.D., Melissa Ohden, and Kathi A. Aultman, MD.
- Angelina Baglini Nguyen, J.D. (Expert on international abortion laws) – Baglini is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and holds a J.D. from Arizona State University. She completed a comparative study of international abortion law for Charlotte Lozier Institute in 2014. The study – released in the United States and Canada – garnered widespread media attention for its findings on the extreme and unusual permissiveness of the two countries’ legal policies in relation to international norms.
- Colleen A. Malloy, M.D. (Expert on Fetal Pain) – Dr. Malloy isa neonatologist at Children’s Memorial Hospital, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Northwestern University Medical School.
- Melissa Ohden (Survivor of a failed abortion) – Ohden is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977. With a Master’s Degree in Social Work, she has worked in the fields of substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault counseling, and child welfare.
- Kathi A. Aultman, MD (Former abortionist) –Dr. Aultman is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has been in private practice in greater Orange Park area since 1981, and joined North Florida OB/GYN in 1996. In 1992, she testified before the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution at a Legislative hearing on the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act.
Five major national polls all show a majority of Americans – women in higher numbers than men – support legislation to stop abortion after five months. Polling by SBA List in four swing states had similar results.
The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act passed the House by a 248-177 on September 18, 2015. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has passed the House twice and received a 54-42 vote in the U.S. Senate on September 22, 2015.
The Susan B. Anthony List and its Political Action Committees, the SBA List Candidate Fund and Women Speak Out PAC, spent $16.71 million in the 2014 election cycle to defeat pro-abortion incumbents and elect pro-life candidates to federal and statewide office. The SBA List is dedicated to pursuing policies and electing candidates who will reduce and ultimately end abortion. To that end, the SBA List emphasizes the education, promotion, mobilization, and election of pro-life women. The SBA List is a network of more than 465,000 pro-life Americans nationwide.
