Flip-Flopping Manchin Sides with Abortion Giant Planned Parenthood Again
Dannenfelser: “West Virginians deserve a senator who actually votes pro-life, not Joe Manchin”
Washington, D.C. – This afternoon Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted against an amendment offered by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) to the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that would stop taxpayer funding from going to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business. In response the national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) released the following statement:
“Pro-life West Virginians cannot trust flip-flopping Joe Manchin to stand up for unborn children. Senator Manchin claims to be pro-life, but he has a history of betrayal on important pro-life votes, including today when he once again voted in support of sending taxpayer dollars to America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. His record is dramatically out of step with his constituents,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of Susan B. Anthony List.
“This is exactly why the SBA List field team recently expanded to West Virginia where we will be active through Election Day, reaching out to pro-life voters who don’t always get to the polls, as well as persuadable Democrats, Independents, and Hispanic voters. West Virginians deserve a senator who actually votes pro-life, not Joe Manchin.”
Sen. Manchin has flip-flopped on the issue of taxpayer funding of abortion:
- April 2011: Sen. Manchin voted against a resolution that would have barred the use of taxpayer funds in a continuing resolution from going to Planned Parenthood.
- August 2015: Sen. Manchin cast a pro-life vote when he voted for Cloture On S. 1881, A Bill To Prohibit Federal Funding For Planned Parenthood.
- December 2015: Just a few months later, Sen. Manchin voted against an amendment to remove a section of an Obamacare repeal bill that would have prohibited funding for Planned Parenthood.
- March 2017: Most recently Sen. Manchin voted with pro-abortion Democrats against a resolution that would nullify an HHS rule that prevents states from restricting federal family planning funding to Planned Parenthood.
SBA List’s field team of more than 500 pro-life canvassers recently expanded to the Mountain state and is visiting voters’ homes to educate them on Sen. Manchin’s record and the importance of voting pro-life. The ground activity is part of an historic effort to visit more than two million homes across the battleground states of Indiana, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, West Virginia, North Dakota, and Montana ahead of Election Day 2018. Last month the SBA List team held a press conference outside of Sen. Manchin’s Charleston office urging him to respect the will of West Virginians by supporting the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Earlier this week SBA List announced a second round of TV and radio ads (pictured right) in West Virginia as part of a $1.6 Million issue advocacy campaign to educate West Virginia voters about Manchin’s support for taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.
