Young Kim began her career as a small business owner and financial analyst. Her public service began when she started working for U.S. Representative Ed Royce, serving him as Director of Community Operations. In 2014, Kim was elected to the 65th District of the California State Assembly, being the first Korean-American woman to hold that position. As assemblywoman, Kim championed measures to protect the lives of children, specifically those who are victims of domestic abuse. Kim is a mother of four and wife to her husband Charles.
