Kermit Gosnell on Trial for Abortion "House of Horrors"
mquigley

Kermit GosnellToday is the second day in the trial of Kermit Gosnell, the infamous Philadelphia abortionist charged with murdering seven newborn babies and one young woman in a botched abortion due to overdose of anesthesia. Gosnell killed the babies with scissors after they had been born – and he wasn’t the only one.

Adrienne Moton, a former employee of Gosnell, testified for the prosecution. CBS Philadelphia reported her testimony:

"Adrienne Moton broke down several times as she recounted her work at the clinic.

Untrained, she says, she was doing ultrasounds and administering anesthesia within months.  And eventually, she has admitted, she snipped the necks of ‘a good ten’ fetuses.”

Kermit Gosnell’s “house of horrors,” otherwise known as the Philadelphia Women's Medical Society, has been well documented, but Gosnell’s defense attorney, Jack McMahon, says that the prosecution is racially motivated.

"This is a targeted, elitist and racist prosecution of a doctor who's done nothing but give (back) to the poor and the people of West Philadelphia…It's a prosecutorial lynching of Dr. Kermit Gosnell."

McMahon’s defense of Gosnell is an outrage. Worlds away from a benevolent community doctor, prosecutors say that police found $250,000 when they raided Gosnell’s home – and for those who can stomach it, the 281-page Grand Jury report lays out just how Gosnell “gave back” to the women of West Philadelphia:

The premises were dirty and unsanitary. Gosnell routinely relied on unlicensed and untrained staff to treat patients, conduct medical tests, and administer medications without supervision. Even more alarmingly, Gosnell instructed unlicensed workers to sedate patients with dangerous drugs in his absence... In addition, he regularly performed abortions beyond the 24-week limit prescribed by law. As a result, viable babies were born. Gosnell killed them by plunging scissors into their spinal cords. He taught his staff to do the same.

This trial begs the question: where was the Pennsylvania Department of Health? According to the Grand Jury report, Gosnell’s clinic had not been inspected for more than 17 years.

After 1993…the Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics at all. The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be “putting a barrier up to women” seeking abortions. (pg. 12)

When Governor Bob Casey, a Democrat and a longtime pro-life champion, was replaced by Gov. Tom Ridge, a pro-choice Republican, Kermit Gosnell was given free rein.

Now, we know what a “truce” on abortion looks like.

SBA List Honored as "Grassroots Organization of the Year"
nomatterhowsmall

Last night the SBA List was honored to receive the award for Grassroots Organization of the Year at the prestigious Weyrich Awards Dinner!

The Weyrich Awards honor groups and individuals deemed to have made a major contribution to advancing the cause of liberty and who follow in the footsteps of conservative champion Paul Weyrich, the first president of the Heritage Foundation.

This is the second time in three years that the SBA List has been named Grassroots Organization of the year and it is thanks to our more than 365,000 members across the country.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser accepted the award on behalf of all pro-life activists. In her short remarks, Marjorie explained that the pro-life battle is truly a movement that is driven by the grassroots. All of our successes stem from the passion and dedication of the activists living out their pro-life values and persistently working to protect the unborn and their mothers -- day in and day out.

In acknowledging recent pro-life successes, Marjorie quoted famed nonviolent social justice activist Mahatma Gandhi:

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

During the 2012 election cycle, the SBA List spent $11.2 million nationwide in pursuit of three goals: 1) ensure the presidential challenger made specific pro-life commitments, 2) combat the “war on women” narrative, and 3) expose the extreme abortion agenda of President Obama and the Democratic Party of abortion on-demand paid for by the taxpayers. The SBA List’s aggressive, multifaceted campaign included two multi-swing state bus tours, a coalition field operation program, hard-hitting television and radio spots, billboards, targeted voter-contact mail, automated calls, and polling.

This year, the SBA List continues to lead the fight to protect unborn children, mothers, and pro-life taxpayers. At the federal level, the SBA List was a key coalition-builder among pro-life and social conservative groups with the launch of the Call2Conscience.com campaign. More than fifty national and statewide groups signed on to the coalition to apply intense grassroots pressure on Congress to protect Americans of faith and conscience from the Obama Administration’s abortion pill mandate.

SBA List is also looking ahead to the 2013 and 2014 elections to ensure authentic pro-life leaders are elected at all levels of government. Earlier this month, the SBA List endorsed Ken Cuccinelli for Governor in Virginia and pledged $1.5 million to the race.

Thank you for your continued support!

Pro-Life Star Rep. Diane Black Introduces Conscience Protections Bill

Diane Black

Yesterday, one of the SBA List rockstar pro-life women, Rep. Diane Black (R-TN), introduced H.R. 940, the Health Care Conscience Rights Act (HCCRA). This critical legislation would defend the conscience rights of all Americans against the HHS abortion-inducing drug mandate.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser applauded Rep. Black for her leadership and criticized the ongoing assault on conscience saying:

“The so-called accommodations recently announced to the HHS Mandate do nothing to address the concerns of non-religious entities and employers who do not wish to be complicit in the destruction of life through abortion-inducing drugs. Congress must act immediately to pass the Health Care Conscience Rights Act and ensure the conscience rights of all Americans are protected.”

Rep. Black’s legislation shows the growing momentum to stand up for conscience. To date, SBA List activists have sent more than 60,700 messages to Congress demanding legislative action to protect the freedom of conscience and religious liberty against the HHS Mandate.

Additionally, more than 50 national and statewide groups have joined the recently launched Call2Conscience.com coalition to mobilize grassroots in response to the assault on conscience and religious liberty.  Hundreds of thousands of Americans were mobilized last week to urge Congress to include language to defend conscience and religious liberty in any must-pass funding legislation.

Pro-life women are taking the lead on this critical effort to protect conscience rights for all Americans. In addition to Rep. Black, the lead sponsor of HCCRA, # other pro-life women are original co-sponsors, including Reps. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Ann Wagner (R-MO), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), and Renee Ellmers (R-NC). Last week, 13 pro-life women signed a letter to House GOP leadership demanding that conscience protections be included in any must-past legislation.

Rep. Diane Black, along with the bill’s other two lead sponsors, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) and Rep. John Fleming (R-LA), led a press conference today highlighting the victims of discrimination against pro-life health care workers and victims of the HHS mandate. Kathy DeCarlo, a nurse at a New York City hospital, described how she was forced, under threat of losing her job and nursing license, to assist in a 22 week abortion, claiming she felt “violated all over again” when the courts told her she had no legal recourse to sue. Other victims of conscience violations spoke, putting a human face on the tragedy and destruction of the HHS mandate and discrimination against pro-life convictions.
