Unplanned: Abby Johnson Shares Story of Pro-Life Conversion

As LifeNews.com reported in late 2009, Abby Johnson, then director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, TX, resigned her post due to having a change of heart about abortion.

As the first chapter of her book, Unplanned, explains, Johnson’s whole life changed when asked to assist in an abortion procedure involving the use of ultrasound. Johnson held the ultrasound probe while the abortionist set about his task. What she saw next was in complete opposition to everything she had believed or been taught by Planned Parenthood. Instead of seeing a lump of tissue that day, Johnson saw a child fighting for life.

Thankfully, Planned Parenthood failed in its attempt to silence Johnson. Its officials had filed restraining orders on both Johnson and the Coalition for Life because they accused them of disclosing privileged information. Judge J.D. Langley ruled that Planned Parenthood did not provide evidence that sufficiently back up its claim that Johnson had violated a confidentially agreement and/or took confidential records without permission.

Langley’s ruling opened the door for Abby Johnson’s book—Unplanned. As Fr. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, noted, “Stories like Abby’s have a purpose. If we can better understand why someone has an abortion or how someone gets into the abortion industry and then how she comes outs, we can come to understand the key to how our entire society can begin to emerge from the darkness of abortion.”
