LifeSiteNews reports that only days after being revealed, the pro-life billboard advertisements, put up by the American Principles Project in Los Angeles have been removed. As a result of pressure from Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups, the billboard company took down the signs. The advertisements stated: “The most dangerous place for a Latino is in the womb” in Spanish and English. The advertisements were connected with “Unidos Por la Vida” a pro-life Hispanic conference that took place this month in Los Angeles. Approximately 8,000 attended the event, hosted by Eduardo Verastegui, the star of the movie Bella. The advertisements were designed to raise awareness about the astronomical rate of abortion in the Hispanic community. According to the Guttmacher Institute, the research arm of Planned Parenthood, 25% of abortions in the U.S. are performed on Hispanic women and their children, yet persons of Hispanic or Latino origin accounted for only 16 percent of the U.S. population in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Pro-abortion groups complained that the advertisements were “racist”, “anti-woman” and “anti-immigrant. Unfortunately, they fail to realize that they are describing their most provided service: abortion. Abortion affects people of all races and women and their infant daughters. In addition, an overwhelming majority of abortion facilities are located in immigrant neighborhoods. Gabriela Valle, senior director of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, commented “An attack on one community is an attack on all communities.” The above statistics (and others) clearly demonstrate that her comments are true in regards to the attack on the pre-born and their mothers and not the purported “anti-woman” agenda of the pro-life movement. Indirectly, the removal of the controversial billboards shows that the pro-life movement is winning. The fact that the billboards were so “offensive,” they had to be removed show that even those who were offended by the message recognize its inherent truth: abortion ends lives and hurts women and minorities are disproportionately affected by abortion. As we work to build a culture of Life in this country, the truth will prevail.
