New Abortion Statistics for UK's Under-16s

For most girls, middle school memories revolve around boys, sleepovers, and lip gloss.

Recent statistics, however, reveal that some women may recall an abortion. According to the UK Department of Health, nearly 10,000 abortions have been performed on girls ages 12-14 since 2002. In the same time frame, 25,500 abortions have been carried out on 15-year-old girls.

Family Education Trust director Norman Wells worries that the traumatic after-effects of abortion are exacerbated by youth. “Every abortion involves a personal tragedy for a mother and a child,” he said, “and none more so than where the mother herself is a child.”
