How does Massachusetts spend its tax dollars?
Since 2008, the AIDS Action Committee has been producing a website with the assistance of grants from the Department of Public Health to inform teens about their sexual health…and advocate abortion. One principal commented to the Boston Herald that she assumed the information was balanced because it was supported by the Department of Public Health.
The state-funded sex education website, www.MariaTalks.com, apparently tells teens that abortion is “much easier than it sounds.” Boston Herald reports that fictional Maria also tells teens:
“The reality of getting an abortion is much easier than it sounds here”[…and] that adoption “can be pretty tough for some people, especially emotionally.”
After trying to see what was actually on the MariaTalks website, I had to give up…I’m guessing the site crashed once the Boston Herald exclusive report hit the internet.
What is even more unbelievable is that the Boston Herald presents the story in such a way as to (almost) make Planned Parenthood look more responsible than the government of the commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Of bypassing parental approval, Maria says, “It may be really hard for you to imagine talking to either your parents or a judge about getting an abortion, but there are people who can help you through it.”
By comparison, Planned Parenthood explicitly states, “Teens are encouraged to involve parents in their decision.”
Under state law, children under 18 seeking an abortion must have permission from a parent or a guardian. Maria notes that state law allows minors to skirt that approval through a confidential judicial hearing, saying, “I know it sounds crazy . . . this really can be done and young women do this all the time here in Massachusetts.”
The site then directs teens to Planned Parenthood, saying that agency will either help them talk to parents or provide a lawyer to guide them through the judicial process. (Emphasis mine.)
One could almost believe that Planned Parenthood wanted to get parents involved, until it offers legal help to keep parents out of their children’s lives and prevent parents from helping their children in one of the biggest decisions of their lives…that could even involve surgery (as abortion can be a surgical procedure). Never mind that parental consent laws serve a purpose and were passed by duly elected legislators working on behalf of the entire state population.
How this has website remained out of the limelight for nearly three years?
