Catholic Advocate challenges Obama to respect Religious Liberty

Catholic Advocate has started a campaign calling on people of faith to petition the Obama administration to respect religious liberty. They say that the President has broken his promise to respect religion and to work in a spirit of cooperation with faith leaders on issues on which they disagree.

In an email to supporters, Catholic Advocate President Deal Hudson said, “President Obama has failed us. Shortly after taking office, President Obama gave the commencement speech at the University of Notre Dame. In this televised address, he spoke of the importance of cooperation and seeking the common good on decisive issues like abortion, saying: ‘When we open our hearts and our minds to those who may not think like we do or believe what we do – that’s when we discover at least the possibility of common ground.’ But without action, words are just words.”

Catholic Advocate’s Vice President Matt Smith said, “No other president in American history has so blatantly chipped away at our religious liberties.”

Smith cites a long list of issues as anti-religion, including allowing taxpayer funding of abortion and expanding stem cell research.

One of the largest concerns of Catholic voters is the President’s stance on conscience protections. Catholic Advocate says that Obamacare does not provide conscience protection for doctors, and also claim that the administration has specifically pushed regulations that would harm Catholic hospitals. Of course, when the U.S. House passed the Protect Life Act in order to add protections for the unborn and for doctors of faith, the president vowed a veto if it came to his desk.

Thank you, Catholic Advocate, for taking a stand to protect our religious liberty!  Check out Catholic Advocate‘s web site to sign the petition to demand that President Obama respect religious liberty!
