State Pro-Life Leaders

Pro-Life women in our state and local governemnts work everyday to shape our communities through public policy. Their work to bring pro-woman and pro-life messages to their states, towns, and counties inspire young women to be involved in the political process. The Susan B. Anthony List looks forward to seeing many more acheivements from these rising pro-life leaders.

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska
In 2006, Sarah Palin was elected as the first female governor of Alaska. In 2008 she ran as Vice-President with John McCain. She not only embodies pro-life ideals in her political actions but in her day-to-day life as a mother of five children, including her youngest son Trig, who was born in 2008 with Down syndrome.  Her candidacy inspired Team Sarah, a special project of the Susan B. Anthony List.

Kay Ivey, State Treasurer of Alabama
Kay Ivey was elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2006 as Alabama’s State Treasurer. In her re-election bid, she gained the largest number of votes in a contested race in Alabama history. As an alumnus of Girls State, she remains dedicated to getting young women involved in the political process.

Jan Brewer, Governor of Arizona
In 2009, Janice Brewer succeeded Janet Napolitano as governor of Arizona. Brewer served as Arizona Secretary of State from 2002-2008 and as a state legislator for 14 years. She has worked diligently to create an efficient and non-wasteful state government.

Terri Lynn Land, Michigan Secretary of State
Terri Lynn Land was elected the Michigan Secretary of State in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006. Under her watch, the Michigan state government has transformed the way it operates becoming  more open to the public.

Beth Chapman, Secretary of State of Alabama
Beth Chapman was elected in 2006 as Secretary of State in Alabama. As the first woman appointed to serve in the governor’s cabinet as “Appointments Secretary,” she helped with the appointments of various judges and state board and commission officials.
